So... this evening I was having some issues with my router and I decided to bring up my test router and I needed it on the same network as my existing router so I could check some of the routes but I needed to do it in such a way so as I didn't screw-up my existing router infrastructure (the ladies of the house do not like their internet connection messed with!).

I knew how to do it and had it running in about 10 minutes.

While I was doing it I thought 'hey... I need come cookies!'.

As I proceeded to stuff my face with DELICIOUS CCC's I thought: 'Dave... maybe some of the folks on ye-old website would also like to know how to add a wireless router to their existing network allowing them to use the latest and greatest routers without having to replace their ISP's router!'

This is one of those articles all SYS ADMINS who are running or are considering running Windows Server 2012 R2.

So… you want Windows 8.1? Good luck…

Simply put it’s not as easy as it sounds as I have found out.

After two weeks of getting my system put back together after the ‘upgrade’ I am STILL finding things I need to either tweak or update.

This guide is designed to give you a heads-up as to what you might encounter and also make sure you know what you are getting into.

Windows 8 is released.
Windows 8 is panned across the board.
Windows 8 needs to become Windows 8.1

What Microsoft DID about it!

Microsoft release Windows 8.1 to… some fanfare.
Microsoft did not tell people Windows 8.1 is a hell of a lot more than a ‘service pack’

Windows 8.1 – Want it? You’re going to have to work for it!

Windows 8.1 is NOT a service pack. It’s a re-write of some of the core code.
Windows 8.1 is NOT going to work on all of the systems which currently can run Windows 8!
Windows 8.1 IS faster but you have to be able to get it stable to use the speed.

Let’s get started!
