Nvidia Shield tablets are too hot to handle, will be remotely extinguished

Damn! Glad I don't have one. I would be quite upset if mine caught fire.

Nvidia has issued a voluntary recall of its Shield gaming tablets because some devices can get too hot to handle.

The firm has announced that some of the Shield hardware, which it launched to the UK market last year, came with an extra and unwanted feature: a battery with the possibility of extreme overheating. The firm has now asked customers to come forward for a voluntary replacement.

The firm is quite open about the recall that is not a recall and is, as we understand it, shutting off suspect machines using the Android remote control feature. This presumably maintains a friendly relationship status with the local postman.
Meanwhile, victims of the potentially combustible devices will be offered replacement hardware and will find themselves in possession of a dead device that they can keep, disassemble or dispose of.
